A little bit of your time can make a big difference

First of all, let us reassure you that, when you take part in any research with Galen, you’ll be treated with respect and sensitivity by our caring team and your details will be treated in strict confidence.

You’ll be asked a series of questions which have been designed to assess, not only your symptoms and your abilities (for example, whether you can move about your home with ease), but also how you feel about your condition and your treatment. We do not give any medical examinations, administer any treatments or give any medical advice. We simply ask your opinions.

You may be asked to take part in one of three ways.

  • Interviews to develop the questionnaire
Interviews can be done at your home or you can come to our office if you prefer. Your interviewer will spend around an hour with you, asking questions about your condition and allowing you to share your views. If you agree, they will record the interview, but we guarantee confidentiality and your personal information will not appear on the interview transcript.
  • Questionnaire development
One of our researchers will sit down with you face-to-face so that you can complete a draft questionnaire and give your opinions on how it’s worded, if the questions are easy to understand and if the questionnaire is easy to complete.
  • Survey to test questionnaires
You’ll be asked to complete a questionnaire either online or by post. It should only take about 10 minutes to do and you’ll need to complete a second questionnaire two weeks later. If you’re doing it online, we’ll send you personal login details, so you can access our secure website, and then email you when you need to complete the second questionnaire.
